Fish Market

The city’s canal, Handzame Canal, had been the boundary between the rural town and the countryside for a long time. In the 13th century, craftsmen took the lower laying grounds, north of the town centre. The canal became a busy inland port of which we can still see some traces near the Fish Market. On the quay wall, you can still see the mooring rings and stairs that were used to load and unload cargo.
