Bethoosterse Broeken route

This hiking trail is 9.2 km long and explores two completely different landscapes in the area of Esen near Diksmuide. A first part goes to the higher area south of Esen, 36 m above sea level, where we can enjoy a beautiful panorama of the Westhoek and the lower area of Esen. Halfway along the route, we enter the lower part, the Bethoosterse Broeken, a part of the Kreke Valley or Handzame Valley. Here we are barely a few metres above sea level. This is an important area for diverse fauna & flora, protected by nature conservation measures. Above all, don't forget your binoculars!

Starting point: Esen square near St Peter's church in Esen. Distance: 9.2 km.

The walking map is available in English in the Tourist Office for €4.
